Everything But The Bagel Seasoning
Bagels were a staple in our house when I was growing up. But not the perfectly uniform, flavorless kind you find at the grocery store. My grandparents used to get the best, authentic bagels from Chicago and bring them up for every holiday – they would stock my mom’s freezer to get us through until their next visit. You haven’t experienced a bagel until you’ve had one from a mom and pop’s Chicago or NYC bakery!
One of my favorite bagels then and now is an Everything bagel, known for its everything seasoning blend that’s sprinkled on top. Everything Bagel Seasoning isn’t just great on bagels, though – my family loves it on scrambled eggs, pizza dough, popcorn, pasta, hash browns, a cheese ball…and, well, everything.
Food brands picked up on its usefulness and started selling jars of it a few years ago, but I like to make it myself instead and use as much or as little as I want at a time. Seems like 1/4 cup lasts us about 2 weeks, depending how much I sprinkle on stuff. A little goes a long way.
