Vegan Hair Mask Guest Post by: Vanessa Roberts

Is it just me, or does anyone else start to get a little afraid for the health of their hair as the days get a little shorter and the temperature starts to drop?

Winter worries are certainly something we all need to think about when it comes to preventing dry hair and those gross split ends… ew 🙁

That’s why today I’m going to show you a recipe for a simple, DIY vegan hair mask that uses avocado and banana as the primary ingredients. It’s sooooo easy to make and best of all costs next to nothing.

PLUS it even tastes great…if you’re into that kind of thing. 😉

You Just Need The Following

It’s likely you’ll have most of these at home already, but if you don’t the good news is you can find them all from your local supermarket. All up it should cost you no more than a couple of dollars to make.

Avocado (half)

Not only do they taste amazing but they also contain a few essential ingredients that our hair can use to stay healthy and therefore grow longer. The vitamin B and E in avocado also plays a vital role in repairing hair and helping to restore the missing proteins that are seen in healthy follicles.

Banana

Banana also contains a high percentage of vitamin B, but it also has a lot of potassium as well, an ingredient which has a direct effect on the hydration levels in you hair and skin.

Did you know that a common cause of dry skin and hair is related to a lack of potassium in your body?

It’s such an important mineral as it takes on an electrical charge when submerged in water. This charge is basically your bodies way of allowing it to communicate with itself, helping to regulate the supply of vital nutrients to where they are needed most.

3 tablespoons of almond milk

Almond milk in a word is AMAZING. It contains a ridiculous amount of natural proteins that work well with your body. In this case, it’s going to supply yourself with vital nutrients you can use to develop more cells, adding to the overall strength and volume of your hair.

Most milks can also play a key role in helping to improve hair and skin pigmentation. Translation? It means it’s going to stop you from going grey too quickly! 🙂

2 tablespoons of maple syrup

You may already know this, but just like honey, maple syrup has humectant properties that make it amazing at absorbing and retaining moisture. It’s also 100% natural and vegan, plus it’s free from any chemical additives that all the big honey brands mix into their products.

Maple syrup although slightly more expensive than honey is just as effective at doing exactly what we need it to do in our mask.

3 tablespoons of olive oil

Ever wondered why Mediterranean women have such amazing hair? Olives baby!

The oil from olives is one of the greatest moisturizers known to woman! The only better alternative to olives would be the oil derived from the argan tree in Morocco, commonly referred to as “argan oil” or “Moroccan oil”. It’s slightly harder to find and a little more pricey so if you can’t get any, extra virgin olive oil should be fine. 🙂

We’re Ready To Start Mixing!

It should only take about 5 minutes to mix and about another 5 to apply to your hair. You’ll just need a small bowl and a fork for mixing and mashing.

Follow these steps to make your hair mask:

1) Mash together your avocado and the banana into your small bowl, using your fork until the mix looks nice and even.

2) Throw in the maple syrup, almond milk and olive oil, and stir well until these ingredients have blended nicely into the remedy.

3) Start applying the mask now girl! Try and use a comb to ensure the mask is evenly spread all through your hair.

4) You’re not going to like this, but you gotta leave it in for at least 15 minutes before washing off with a natural nourishing shampoo ONLY! Using a regular shampoo could undo all the good work, removing the nutrients you just supplied to your hair.

Before You Get Started!

If you have extra long hair, you might want to consider doubling the amount of ingredients mentioned above to ensure you have enough to sufficiently apply to your hair.

Also try not to use a straightener for 24 hours after application of your vegan hair mask as that again will undo all the good work from the mask!

For best results apply this mask every two weeks to help restore any unwanted damage.

If you have any questions at all about this mask, drop me a comment and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

Now go straight to the kitchen and start mixing your own vegan hair mask! 🙂
